Freie Eisenionen sind unmittelbar toxisch, da sie über Redox-Prozesse Radikale bilden, die Autoxidationen und Membranschäden hervorrufen.<sup>6</sup> Die hohe Komplexstabilität ermöglicht es, größere Mengen in kürzerer Zeit zu infundieren.
